As a part of this year's Akwesasne Wellness Week events and activities, the SRMT Outreach Department held a health fair at the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, Station 1. The Health Fair took place on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with different departments and organizations set up to answer questions and educate the community on a large variety of health issues. Community members had the opportunity to have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked. Families with young children took advantage of having their car seat installed correctly and checked.

SRMT Health Services Dental Clinic were giving away everything a person could need to have clean teeth, along with some good reasons to keep our teeth clean, Dental Assistants (L to R) Kelly Tarbell and Jodanna Logan.

There was no shortage of information going around, with departments such as the SRMT Outreach Chronic Care Nursing, SRMT Dental Clinic, SRMT Alcohol Chemical Dependency, Onkwehonwe Midwives Collective and SRMT Mental Health, to name but a few. Each department or organization was set up at a table with pamphlets and brochures with information on their particular services.

This year the Health Fair had a good turnout, with many community members walking out armed with new information and ways to improve their overall health.
