TITLE: Caretaker
LOCATION: Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club
SALARY: $11.00 per hour not to exceed 30 hours weekly
HOURS OF WORK: 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday – School Year
3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday – Summer Hours
Occasional weekends.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director
FLSA: • Non-Exempt

The philosophy of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club is to create a safe and positive environment while providing educational and cultural programs geared to meet the needs of youth, focusing on self-responsibility, maturity, and growth. The Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club is seeking energetic and creative individuals to work in a fast paced afterschool program.
The Caretaker is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the interior and exterior of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club, assisting with cleaning of the floors, walls, bathrooms, stairwells, windows and doors and identification of the required repairs to maintain the safety and up-keep of the internal and external appearance of the facility. The Caretaker is also responsible for light maintenance and repair to the building including drywall repair, painting, replacing fixtures and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Following a daily checklist of required housekeeping items, cleans and maintains the offices, classrooms, bathrooms and Club activity areas on a regular basis.
• Cleaning duties includes sweeping and mopping of all tiled floors, vacuuming all carpeted floors, coordinates and manages annual floor stripping and waxing. Daily removal of garbage.
• Ensures that all cleaning supplies are ordered and stored in a safe designated area.
• Also ensure that property grounds are cleared to prevent any potential safety concerns.
• Maintain the outside appearance of the Club by cleaning windows and removing spider webs and debris from the building.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations in the kitchen and canteen areas.
• Along with the regular daily duties there will be occasions when this position requires the person to assist in the lifting of heavy objects such as furniture, heavy garbage and lawn debris as well as climbing ladders to replace lighting as needed.
• Additional duties include light maintenance and repairs to building and equipment as needed.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience in performing caretaker duties in a professional setting.
• Experience working in an office setting.
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Knowledge and understanding of Akwesasne community, values, traditions and social norms.
