Akwesasne Indians Lacrosse Win Two Out of Three

The Gloucester Griffins made it a close game for a period and a half, actually taking the lead at one point, but the Akwesasne Indians put together a series of scoring runs in the second and third periods for the 17-7 win.

This game was on Thursday, May 17.

The Indians held a slim 3-2 first period lead but the visiting Griffins opened the middle period with three unanswered goals in the first three minutes to hold a 5-3 edge.

The slim lead was short lived as Akwesasne went on a five goal scoring run to pull ahead 8-5 to end the second period.

Gloucester managed two goals in the final twenty minutes but the Indians scored nine to put the game out of reach. Seven of those nine markers came in a row.

Blaze White and Keldren King led the scoring for the Indians with three each. With a pair apiece were Kainen Francis, Nick Tremblay, Tanner Tarbell and Kendrick Angus.

Derek Lister, Cobie Cree and Nonkon Thompson scored one each.

Tremblay, Angus and Francis picked up four assists.

Gage King picked up the win between the pipes and assisted on the Lister goal.

Two nights later the Indians went on the road to Orillia for another win.

In this game they didn’t put together any five-goal streaks but managed only two and three at a time to win 15-9.

Angus and White scored three and Tremblay with Tyler Akins scored two apiece.

With one each were Francis, Nonkon Thompson, Kyran Sunday, Treyton Mitchell, and Tarbell netted one each.

The next afternoon Akwesasne took their first loss of the year, 14-9, at the hands of the Oshawa Green Gaels.

The first two periods ended 5-4 and 8-7 for Oshawa and near the halfway point of the third period the score was tied at nine. But after that the Indians found themselves at the other end of a scoring streak as the Green Gaels scored five straight to secure the win.
