Despite some big scoring chances that came in bunches, the Akwesasne Wolves Bantam hockey team came up short 2-0 last weekend at the Benson Center in Cornwall.

The visiting Russell Coyotes scored the first period's only goal. Akwesasne came close to tying near the end of the period on Akenhi:io Lazore and Rayne Arenovich close calls.

There was no scoring in the second period. Throughout most of the first period the Wolves had trouble in the neutral zone, rarely getting into the Coyotes end. The middle period was reversed and the Wolves carried the momentum in carrying the puck.

Akwesasne had a late penalty and that carried over into the final period. In one sequence the visitors had three big opportunities to pad their lead but goalie Amy Betourney-Kuhn played big to hold them off. Russell added their insurance goal near the midway point on a shot from Marika Castonguay, which stood as the final.

Myriam Prevost scored the Coyote's first period goal.
