RONALD L. MITCHELL "TAIRONIOTE"

 

AKWESASNE – Mr. Ronald L. Mitchell "Taironiote", 60, of 34 Rooseveltown Road, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday evening, August 15, 2017 in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Ronnie was born December 22, 1956 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of the late Patrick and Ann (Arquette) Mitchell. He attended local schools and graduated from Massena High School. He later took courses at Canton ATC and earned a degree in welding trades from St. Lawrence College.

Ronnie was an ironworker with Local 721 in Montreal for many years, and was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, fishing, socializing with his friends, cooking, and going to the races at Frogtown. He also played pool for the American Legion Team and was always quick with a joke.

Ronnie is survived by his children, Wade Mitchell, Ross Mitchell (Lauren Cree), Lisa Mitchell, Lacey Mitchell, Kirsty LaFrance, and Stevie LaFrance, all of Akwesasne; his grandchildren, Keeya and Avery; his brothers, Allen Mitchell and John (Beatrice) Mitchell; his sisters, Sharon Mitchell, Roberta (Joe) Bigtree, Valerie Mitchell (Jeffery Thompson), Connie Mitchell, and Charlene Mitchell (Richard Johnson), all of Akwesasne; his aunts, Esther Jock and Audrey Wagner; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Donna Mitchell in infancy and Sandra Smoke on July 27, 1984.

Friends called at the Akwesasne Homemakers from Friday until Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sunday at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores celebrating.
