Mohawk Nation Longhouse Hosts Six Nations Spring Sing

Mohawk Nation Longhouse.

The Longhouse was jam-packed this past Saturday, April 15th. Singers from Akwesasne and surrounding communities like Kahnawake, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Onondaga, Six Nations and Tuscarora came to attend the Six Nations Spring Sing, which was held at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse. Singers from all over came to share their new women's dance verses. Everyone had a good time sharing and listening, although there were not enough chairs for everyone to sit, that did not stop anyone from enjoying themselves. The community really pulled together to help out with the event, making sure there was enough food for everyone there.

The day began with the Ohenton Karihwatehkwen, and then the songs were sung and everyone there enjoyed listening and sharing. Afterwards a social took place, and it did not finish until after midnight. Thanks to the Akwesasne Women's Singing Society for organizing and fundraising, to make sure this event was a success. The Six Nations Fall Sing will take place in Six Nations in the Fall of 2017.

Note: Photos are not allowed to be taken inside the Longhouse.
