The Akwesasne girls had their chances but a stingy Gloucester defense and turnovers gave them a 2-1 loss last weekend at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

They had big chances though.

Early in the game Jenna Oakes and Emily Eldridge had a breakaway but the loose puck bounced around in the crease before Gloucester goalie Hailey Nasula batted it away.

A minute into the second period Oakes had another big chance to score as she picked apart the Gloucester defense but her shot went wide.

Akwesasne went shorthanded near the end of the first period as Byanka Beaudry was called for tripping. They almost went two players down a minute later as Tayiah Oakes got away with knocking a Gloucester player down behind the net.

Halfway through the final period the Wolves got on the board when Oakes went for the net again. She lost her handle on the puck but Harper Oakes jumped on the loose puck and scored to tie.

With 42 seconds left Gloucester scored their go-ahead goal to ice the game.

The Bantams have two road games before returning to the Ed Lumley Arena to host another Gloucester team on December 20.
