With this year's EMS Week celebrations coming to an end, we'd like to extend our sincerest thanks to the hard working and dedicated team of Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance (AMA). EMS Week, May 15 to 21, 2016, is Emergency Medical Services Week and aims at bringing together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's front line. For the past 5 weeks, AMA has been featuring EMS Profiles in the Akwesasne Indian Time Newspaper with about 3-4 providers each week having an interview and their picture in the paper for the community to get to know their providers.

We would like to extend our thanks and say nia:wen to the AMBE Schools in Kana:takon, Tsi Snaihne and Kawehno:ke that allowed EMT Wabigonikwe Tenasco to visit with their students. She brought an ambulance with her and had an interactive display with the kids so that they were able to get used to seeing and touching the equipment and would be less afraid should they ever require our services.

We would like to send out a very big Niawenko:wa to Tarbell Management Group for their donation of $500.00; to CKON for their donation of $5,000.00; and also to the Akwesasne Indian Time Newspaper for having our profiles in the paper. Nia:wen for your continued support and generosity towards Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance and EMS Week- your contributions are very much appreciated!

EMTs Ed Cook and Wabigonikwe Tenasco-Cook accept a $5,000 donation from CKON.

Lastly we would like to thank everyone who attended and donated food for our EMS Week Potluck BBQ at Kanonhkwat'sheri:io in celebration of all our EMS providers on Friday, May 20, 2016! A very special thanks to the Maintenance Crew for manning the BBQ, setting up and cleaning up afterward! Also in attendance were the Akwesasne Mohawk Police and St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police who we value for their on scene support and assistance. We also had the opportunity to showcase our new ambulance, Unit 1, with building staff and MCA and SRMT Chiefs. The new ambulance will be on the road and ready to respond to calls once radio equipment is installed. Awarded at the BBQ was an all new "Provider of the Year" Award. AMA staff voted in-house and the award was presented to Issac McDonald; unfortunately, he could not be there in person due to training obligations.

Nia:wen to everyone who helped make this year's EMS Week such a great success and we can not wait to see everyone again next year! –EMS Week Planning Committee
