OFA-10, Salmon River-1
The Salmon River varsity softball team was hoping to post its first win at home against the OFA Blue Devils but the Lady Devils had built a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning and went on to win 10-1.
Tiffany Connors touched the home plate in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch to put the Shamrocks on the board.
"We had chances to score. We had runners on but just couldn't score them," said Salmon River coach Liz Durfee. "We just need to lose from it, learn from the mistakes we have made and move on."
Lauren Martin singled and doubled for the Lady Shamrocks while Connors and Brittany Brooks had a double each. Kaniehtine LaFrance logged a single hit for Salmon River.
Brooks led the way offensively for the Shamrocks with seven strikeouts and only two walkers. However, the defense tallied five errors.
"I was pleased that the girls stuck with it, didn't hang their heads and kept on battling until the game was over," commented Durfee. "We can't get bogged down and the errors do not help, but we need to learn from our mistakes, pick ourselves back up and press on. There is so much of the season left."
Baseball
Massena-12, Salmon River-6
The Massena varsity baseball team came out swinging to go ahead 10-0 by the top of the second and then had to rally together in the third after the Shamrocks answered back with five runs in their home half of the inning. The 12-6 win was the first win of the season for Massena.
James Donnelly led the Massena offense with a pair of triples while Bailey LaBarge hit a double.
Ben Kelly went the first three innings for the loss. Hunter Ghostlaw relieved Kelly and allowed one run for the remaining four innings. Nick McKeel went the distance for the Massena win.
Matthew Harvey and David Roundpoint each hit a double for the Shamrocks.
