Boys Basketball

Despite winning just one of their last three games, the Massena Red Raiders continue to hold first place in the NAC Central Division with a 6-2 league record, 11-3 overall.

They are tied for the top spot with Ogdensburg, who also has a 6-2 league record, 7-7 overall.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, Massena dropped a non-league contest 61-51 over host Watertown Cyclones. Massena's Bailey Terry led the Red Raiders scoresheet with 17 points. Watertown's Hassan Isaiah had a game-high 21 points.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, Massena fell to the Franklin Academy Huskies 61-50.

Massena trailed 29-18 at the half and never regained momentum.

Dante Viskovich paced the Raiders with 17 points. Terry notched 10. Xavier Goyco and Nick McKeel each tallied five points. Bailey LaBarge netted four points. Nathaniel Currier scored three points. James Donnelly, Jacob Goyco and Alex Lippassar each had two points.

Malone's Jayson Spaulding scored a game-high 19 points.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, Massena won 61-36 over the Gouverneur Wildcats. The Raiders were ahead 28-20 at the half, then outscored Gouverneur 21-2 in the third stanza. McKeel had a game-high 16 points. Terry had 13 points. LaBarge netted 10 points. Donnelly tallied six points. Jacob Goyco recorded five points. Xavier Goyco, Tyler Flynn and Viskovich each had four points.

Brock Miller led Gouverneur with 14 points.

Boys Hockey

After a 10-0 win against the Franklin Academy Huskies, the Massena Red Raiders boys hockey squad continues to hold first place in Section 10 Division I with a perfect 5-0 league record, 9-2 overall.

That win was Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Massena Arena.

Turner Thomas scored the only goal Massena needed 38 seconds into the bout. He was assisted by Ben Sprague and Patrick Manning.

Sprague finished with a goal and three assists. Manning scored once and assisted twice. Eric Miller assisted n four plays. Nate Bressard scored twice. Maddox Merry tallied two assists. Josh Underwood and Nick Koszan each had a goal and an assist. Jack Loran, Nick Henrie and Thomas had single assists. Dan Casey and Sam Chilton each scored once.

Logan Brothers and Noah Kormanyos split netminding detail for a combined 11 saves.

Joey Brown blocked 23 shots for Malone. Matt Delisle took over later in the game, denying 17 scoring attempts.

Girls Hockey

Following wins over Canton and Salmon River, the Massena Lady Raiders are one game behind first place in Section 10 Division I with a 6-1 league record, 15-3 overall. Canton is in first place with a 7-1 league record, 13-2 overall.

If Massena beats Potsdam on Jan. 23, they can claim the NAC banner.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, Massena beat the visiting Salmon River Lady Shamrocks 8-1.

Three nights earlier, they bested Canton 5-0. Abbey Paduano scored the only goal Massena needed at 12:09 in the opening period, assisted by Shaunessy LaClair. Claire Tyo scored the first insurance goal with 1:23 left in the first period, assisted by Bailey Thomas and Amber Thomas on a power play. KC Herne scored on another power play at 9:00 in the middle frame, assisted by Mikenna Merry and Abbie Paquin. Molly O'Connell raised the lead to 4-0 on a power play, assisted by Herne and Brittany Streeter at 5:10 in the third period. Amber Thomas scored the final marker assisted by Tyo with 1:09 left in the contest.

Kyrsten Stone lodged 17 saves for Massena. Elizabeth Burke tallied 16 stops for Canton.

Girls Basketball

After two straight wins, the Massena Lady Raiders have climbed into second place in the NAC Central Division with a 6-3 league record, 7-7 overall. They are 3.5 games behind first place Canton, who has a perfect 10-0 league record, 12-2 overall.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, the Lady Raiders bested the visiting Franklin Academy Lady Huskies 50-43 thanks to 13 points from Lexis Jacobs.

After falling behind 10-7 after the opening frame, Massena regained their footing to lead 18-11 in the second quarter and going on for the win.

Alyssa Eubank netted 12 points. Sydnee Carroll scored nine. Paige Perry tossed six. Jaylee Jones and Sophia Rusaw each scored three points. Kelly Southwick and Nova LeGrow tallied two each.

Malone's Gabby Collins recorded a game-high 14 points.

Three nights earlier, Massena hosted the Gouverneur Lady Wildcats and won 57-48.

Massena led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter and 22-20 at the half after being outscored 14-6 in the second frame. After pulling ahead 42-38 at the end of the third stanza, Massena kept ahead 15-10 in the final quarter for their victory.

Jones had 13 points, which included nailing three three-point shots. Eubank scored 12 points. Jacobs had nine points, LeGrow tossed eight, Rusaw seven, Octavia Viskovich six and Bree Mere two.

Emma Bell led Gouverneur with 16 points.
