MOHAWK ANTI TAX STEERING COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES:

(December 1, 2015) The Board of Directors of the MATSC, consisting of Minnie Garrow, Loran Thompson and Melvin White, is hosting an informational meeting on December 14, 2015, at 3:00 pm, at the offices of the MATSC, on Rt. 37, Loran Hill, Akwesasne. The purpose of the meeting is to update Plaintiffs who filed a lawsuit against the New York State Police after the NYSP viciously attacked a sacred ceremonial fire site at Onondaga Nation and on Rt. 81s.

Attorney Terry Hoffman of Syracuse, NY, will be present to address his clients and update them on the developments of the case to date. Pending terms of Settlement of the lawsuit will be discussed. Because the meeting will involve the discussion of private and confidential atty/client information, only Hoffman’s clients will be allowed to attend.

In 1997, Ongwehonweh from all the confederacy had gathered to burn tobacco and ask for the Creator’s help in the fight against the imposition of taxes by New York State against our People. As the Sacred Tobacco Burning was being prepared, the New York State Police blocked access to Rt. 81 and entered the site with full riot gear and paddy wagons and proceeded too beat the elderly, the disabled, the infants, women, men and children.

Many Ongwehonweh required medical treatment and legal representation in court to defend against trumped-up charges. Among the defense attorneys who came to assist the People was Atty Terry Hoffman. When asked for assistance there was no hesitation from our Sister Nation, the Oneida Nation and Ray Halbritter, to extend the help. The Oneidas sent in a team of the best lawyers in the world to help protect our People and our rights.

Hosting this meeting is an honor, according to the MATSC Board of Directors, because the businessmen of Akwesasne and the MATSC took a position of assisting all of the People of the Confederacy in the fight against NYS taxation.

If there are any questions, these questions may be directed to Board Member Minnie Garrow at 518-521-0741.
