Dr. Nelson Ying TRSEF Hosted and Presented Awards to Ahkwesahsne Students at Science Fair

Lanney Tahy, student from AMS.

The Ying TRSEF (Tri Region Science and Engineering Fair) was held in Syracuse on March 14 and 15, 2015. There were two age groups for the contestants who entered, Middle School and High School, and those selected to go were invited on the success of their science fair projects at their schools. The Scientific Review Committee ensures the safety and quality of research presented, to be safe and appropriate. There were two engineering competitions. The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest was for middle school, high school and for college students.

Congratulations to a fine group of students who accomplished themselves with their science fair projects and received well deserved honors. The students set up their projects on the first day so the project review reps could examine them to make sure they were up to the standards. On the second day, only the judges, fair officials and volunteers could enter the secured room so projects could be examined.

Tyren Cook, student from Kanatakon School.

Tyren Cook was an award winner of the Selby Hancox Memorial Award for technical achievement for commending the skill with which he completed the technical parts of his project. This award was named in memory of Selby Hancox, a journeyman, electrician, fleet mechanic, electrical engineer and inventor.

At the High School Senior level, Lanney Tahy received recognition on her project "Crossing Over." This student will be eligible to advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, Engineering Fair, the Genius Olympiad and the Ying Scholarship Finals. This is a significant transition for this student to prepare for the next project.

Lastly, participation certificates were presented to Kade Adams, Parris Cole, Tanice Jock, Millie King and Camaron Loran. Congratulations to all the students as they continue school and involve themselves among future engineers and scientists.
