MCA Community Health Program Hosts March Break Health and Fitness Camp

 

2015 March Break Health and Fitness Camp participants and volunteers.

During the March Break, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Community Health Program, led by Aaron Jock, sponsored a Health and Fitness Camp for 25 kids. The goal of the Health and Fitness Camp was to encourage the children to be active and to live a healthy lifestyle. The 3-day camp was held at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center with meals and snacks provided.

The participants were split into three groups by age, and each day they rotated throughout three stations. The stations were lacrosse skills with Aaron Jock and Mike Thompson, arts and crafts with Okemah Sharrow, nutrition education activities with Catherine Ciampini, and fun games. At the end of each day the kids were treated to social songs and dances with the Native North American Traveling College.

On the last day of the Health and Fitness Camp, two bicycles were given away to one boy and one girl participant. The lucky winners were Iohetiio Peters-Martin and Rakwirahes Pembleton!
