JONATHON TIHAWENNATE WAGERS

 

Jonathon Tihawennate Wagers, Wolf Clan, born on April 16, 1975 to Evon Cesar and Allen Wagers in Anaheim, California. Jonathon grew up in Berkeley, California surrounded by his loving family and most cherished by his younger brother Ryan and his grandmother, Mary Papineau Cesar. Jonathon was 39 years old and passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 in Burlington, VT. He led a life filled with searching for truth and meaning, balancing the traditional Mohawk culture and our modern multicultural society.

Jonathon attended SUNY Potsdam College and was a recent inductee of the National Honors Society. He was working towards a Bachelor's Degree, with interest in environmental studies and creative writing. He was a member of the steel workers union working high steel as a connector, including skyscrapers throughout New York, Boston and California. Some of his work included the Golden Gate Bridge and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in NYC.

He helped in the formative years of Kanatsiohareke in Fonda, NY. He has been mentioned in publications and written published letters: Jonathon was an entrepreneur having started a number of businesses including silk-screening and ceramics.

The grandson of Mary Papineau Cesar a resident of Spanish, Jonathon was a role model, fulfilling the dream of learning his ancestor's culture and language.

His dream was fulfilled as his children attended the Akwesasne Freedom School, and are fluent Mohawk speakers.

He is survived by his loving wife Xochitl Rios and their three teenage children, Amalli Nalli, Tlakanequi Cesar and Teohuatonalli Cesar.
