First Annual Heart to Heart 9K Walk Run

Mother and daughter duo Rachelle Garrow-Hayes took first place, and daughter Nicole Hayes took second place in the women's division.

It couldn't have been a better day for the first annual Heart to Heart 9K Walk & Run held on Saturday September 27, 2014. Roger Allen, Heart to Heart Fitness Center's General Manager, organized the race. Besides the great exercise and great feeling of knowing you're doing something for a good cause, participants were given t-shirts, a free month membership to Heart to Heart and a delicious meal after the race.

"Roger did a great job organizing all this," said Justin Tarbell.

A DJ at the start/finish line added ambience to the event and at about 9am, walkers and runners got on the start line and began. There were124 registered participants. Runners and walkers did a big circle starting at Heart to Heart travelling down Frogtown Road to the Helena/North Rd, west on Rt. 37, and back down Frogtown Rd to Heart to Heart.

Roger decided to do the run to encourage community involvement. Heart to Heart is trying to get more youth involved and have dropped their age in the fitness center to 12 when accompanied by an adult. The proceeds went to the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club, which sticks with the theme. Dale White sits on the board ABGC and suggested them as a recipient. Roger said, "It's a great cause, kids do their homework and get exercise and so much more there."

Roger said they wanted to run a professional event and hired a professional timing team from New Hampshire. Michael Amarello from 3C Race Productions said a race is "a lot of hard work." You can visit their website, http://www.3craceproductions.com, and see all the results of the run.

There were prizes and medals for first, second and third, men and women divisions, with first winning $300, second getting $200 and third $100.

Ready, Set, Go!

The event was a success. "Next year will be better, we are working out the kinks, it's a learning year. But it was the perfect weekend and I'm looking forward to next year," Roger added.
