Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

The Snye Recreation Annual Easter Activities were held this past weekend. The Pie Bingo was the first activity to take place on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The bingo was well attended and winners took home two pies. The winners of the Special Games not only took home pies, but also received a fruit basket and a $50.00 Gift Card. Our Jackpot winner also received two pies, a fruit basket and a $100.00 Gift Card. During intermission we held the Adult Cap/Bonnet contest and our winners received $25.00 Gift Cards. They were Barb Smoke, Josephine Lazore and Jolene White.

The doors opened once again at 5:00 p.m. for our Family Trivia. We had 11 teams entered. We also had a Mohawk Auction and 50/50 during the game. Our winners were: 1st place- Dawn & Blake Lazore, Jade Gabri and Carter King. In 2nd Place was Delores & Iehente Lazore and Arlene David and Son. In 3rd Place we had the team of Ronkwas & Stewart Peters and Girls. The Music round winners were Wayne, Mae, Dayna Green and Terrance & Thoren Edwards-Square. Special thanks to the quiz master Reen Cook and the music man Roger Mitchell.

Sunday was the day of the Easter Hunt. At 1:30 we had a Cap/Bonnet contest for the children and our winners were for the 3 & Under Category we had Brandon Lazore, Joelle Peters and Irae'a Lazore; for the 4-6 year olds we had Joey Phillips, Zade Mitchell and Javen Jackson; for the 7-11 year olds we had Tentha Williams, Karakwas Mitchell and Thoren Edwards-Square and for the 12 to 17 we had Noah Edwards-Square and Keeya Capton. All winners received $25.00 Wal-Mart Gift Cards.

The Hunt started at 2:00 pm sharp, with no other then the Easter Bunny leading the Parade. We had around 300 hunters so the eggs were all picked up within 5 minutes. The weather was nice but our grounds were too wet, so the older children did the hunt outside but the younger kids did the egg hunt in the Gym.

Children were on the Hunt to find the 4 eggs which held the special coins at a chance to win a special prize. The lucky winners to find the coins were Taylor Mitchell who won a $100.00 Visa Gift Card, Cameron King won the Xbox 360, Keera Oakes won the $100.00 Wal-Mart Gift Card and the Lucky Winner of the IPAD Mini was Gwen Bero. When hunters arrived they registered for the Egg Hunt and we drew 12 door prizes for each division.

We could not do our annual events without our dedicated volunteers who do an awesome job. Without their help things would not run so smoothly. The volunteers who fill the eggs, make pies, sell tickets, score keep, our runners for Trivia, Kitchen helpers, those who spread the eggs, set up tables, sweep, mop floors, clean bathrooms, do shopping, our judges and to our Easter Bunny who made the trip from Ottawa to spend the weekend with us. So you can see it takes many volunteers to run events, and we have the Best Ones in Snye! Niawen Kowa to all of you! See you all Next Year!
