Massena Girls Ease Past the Wildcats

The Massena girl’s basketball team jumped out to an early 20-6 first quarter lead on a visiting Gouverneur squad last Friday night. The Lady Raiders turned up the offense and held the Wildcats to just three points in the second for a halftime score of 31-9 on their way to a 45-24 win.

Senior Marissa Manley poured in a game high 17 points to aid the Lady Raiders along with 14 rebounds. Alisha Jacobs fired through three three-pointers in her 15 point game. Erin Francis delivered six points followed by Samantha Villnave with four and Maere Curran with three. Sidney Thompson contributed 10 rebounds and five steals.

Jessica Rotundo led the Wildcats with six points while Kristin Roberts collected four points. Danielle McCormick, Rachel Knowlton, Rebecca Bulsiewicz and Noelle Carbone each chipped in three points.

Earlier in the week the Raiders were on the road in a match-up with the Potsdam Sandstoners. The Lady Raiders scored the first 12 points of the game, but Potsdam outscored Massena 17-9 in the second. Massena trailed 22-20 going into the second half.

The Lady Raiders used a strong second half effort to defeat Potsdam, 59-48. Alisha Jacobs sparked Massena offensively when she fired through eight three-pointers to lead all scorers with 26 points. Teammate Marissa Manley contributed 18 points and pulled down 12 balls. Sidney Thompson (6 rebounds) and Samantha Villnave (5 rebounds) added six points each. Erin Francis is credited with three points while Dominique Valancius accounted for four steals.

Shanielle Chambers delivered a team high of 15 points including three three-pointers. Brenna Sapp poured in three three-pointers for a 13 point effort. Taylor Bonner added 10 while Sarah Vivlamore delivered six, Kate Hildreth and Kayla Phillips chipped in two points each for Potsdam.
