SRCS Middle and High School Winter Concerts

There is nothing like a school concert to put a smile on your face as you listen and watch the students perform music that they have been working so hard to learn. They are beaming from ear to ear and are anxious for everyone to hear.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week the Middle School and High School Band and Chorus concerts took place in the SRCS auditorium. Both bands are under the direction of Mrs. Cindy Healy, while the chorus is led by Mrs. Emily Robideau.

The Middle School concert took place on Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. The band is an impressive size boosting 87 plus students. Songs that were performed by the band include “The Simple Gifts of Christmas”, “Hark! The Herald Trumpets Play” and “A Shaker March.”

The Chorus has a group of 71 singers and it performed “Carols All Around (And a Roun),” “Something Told the Wild Geese” and “Rock the Little Baby.”

The High School chorus and band followed on the next night, Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The band went first playing songs like “Russian Sleigh Ride,” “Appalachian Carol”, “Kings and Bells,” “Canion De Navidad” and ended with “Angels Diggin’ It.”

There are two choral groups, the Senior High Chorus and the Select Choir. The Select Choir entertained by signing “A la Puerta del Cielo” and “ Sparklejollytwinklejingly.” The Select Choir singers are also members of the High School Chorus.

The Chorus started out by singing “Ding, Dong, Merrily on High,” “Midwinter’s Chill, Bethlehem,” “Winter, Fire and Stone” and “Bidi Bom.” Emily Hutchins was the accompanist on the piano.

It was nice to listen to these young people sing and play instruments. Some students just started playing an instrument in September and are already playing in a concert. One cannot help but get into the holiday spirit after hearing a school concert. I know that I left with the song “Bidi Bom” playing in my head.
