Cold Water Rescue Over the Weekend

On December 15, Massena Rescue and the Massena Rescue Dive Team were toned out for mutual aid to Adams Marina in Akwesasne to assist the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance and the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department in a Search and Rescue in progress for a reported person in the Snye Channel.
According to a release from Randy Montour, 2nd Chief Massena Rescue Squad, arriving Akwesasne units were told that an unknown person had fallen into the 50F fast moving water at approx. 7:30am. The Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department launched two rescue boats into the water and started the rescue operation. The Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance staged at the Marina with the Fire Command Center.
Massena Rescue’s A-214 responded to the scene to assist with Advanced Life Support.
The patient was located and rescued from out of the freezing water at approx. 8:30am. He was rushed into the waiting ambulance and placed into a Mustang Thermal Recovery Blanket. EMS units worked to stabilize the patient and he was rushed to Massena Memorial Hospital for treatment of severe hypothermia.
