ST. REGIS, QUEBEC – Mr. Simon King, age 83, of 67 Kateri Tekakwitha Street, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011 at Cornwall Community Hospital, where he had been taken earlier in the day.
Simon was born December 12, 1927 at the family home in St. Regis, Quebec, the son of Lawrence Mitchell and Christie King. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Dan Mitchell. He attended school in St. Regis. On September 2, 1946, he married Marjorie Francis at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Jacobs, SJ, officiating.
Simon was a laborer for Germanetti and Ryan in Massena for 33 years. He also worked for John McKenna Paving in Norfolk and helped in the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway. In his earlier years, Simon worked in the lumber camps and on the railroad. He was a lifetime communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Father Michael Jacobs Knights of Columbus Council #10423. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren and their sporting activities, fishing, hunting, and was an avid Akwesasne Wolves fan.
Simon is survived by his wife, Marjorie; 9 children, Martha and David George of Akwesasne; Doreen King of Cornwall, Ontario; Jennifer “Fanny” and Sherman David of Cornwall Island; Brenda King of Nepean, Ontario; Veronica “Binky” and Hubert Rourke of Hogansburg; Timothy and Tracy King of Cornwall Island; June “Nicky” King of St. Regis, Quebec; Terry King and companion, Rhonda Laughing of St. Regis, Quebec; and Tracy King and companion, Dana Cook, St. Regis, Quebec; 11 grandchildren, Allyson, Kelly, Anna, Yolanda, Charmaine, Lana, Marc, Michael, Brett, Louie, Baby Terry; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great granddaughter. He is also survived by his seven sisters, Madeline, Emily, Nancy, Suzanne, Elizabeth, Rita and Maryann; four brothers, Reginald and Winifred Mitchell, Snye, Quebec; Fred, Andrew, and Gilbert Mitchell, all of St. Regis, Quebec; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son at age 12, Simon King, Jr. on January 23, 1969, a granddaughter, Leslee Ann Rourke; and a nephew, Russell “Hoss” Mitchell; and 7 siblings.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 11:00 AM at the St. Regis Catholic Church.
