Ken'Niiohontesha (Strawberry) Ceremony

 


The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs, Clan Mothers, and Faithkeepers announce Strawberry Ceremony to be held Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 8:00 a.m.

The Leadership agreed on how the proceedings will go. It will start at 8:00am with the wampum being put in the center of the floor for the people to make amends to Shonkwaiatison (Our Creator). After the wampum is retrieved from the center, the Ohenton Karihwatehkwen (opening) followed by the 1st O’stoserakowa (Feather Dance).

Strawberry drink will be passed around to the people to give thanks to Shonkwaiatison for bringing the strawberries back to us for another cycle of ceremonies. Next we will do the Osahetakeha (Bean Dance). Then the leadership will ask the clan mothers if we have any newborn female babies to be named. If there is, then now would be the time to do it. After the babies are named, then we do Ionashitakarennion Karennakaion (women shuffle dance) and then the 2nd O’stoserakowa, then pass out the foods, and select someone to do the closing.

Please bring mush, corn bread, maple syrup, strawberries and eating utensils. Wild strawberries are appreciated. If not, then farm fresh picked strawberries will do. All Onkwehonweh are welcome. Traditional dress appreciated. Niawen (Thank You).
