Salmon River will Choose New Superintendent at April 20 Board Meeting

The Salmon River Central School District Board of Education has narrowed the search for a superintendent of schools to two candidates. Donald Carlisle from Warwick, New York and Stanley Harper from Troy, New York are the two remaining candidates still under consideration from an initial pool of 14 applicants. The Board of Education plans to make a decision at the April 20, regularly scheduled board meeting. The new superintendent is expected to start on July 1, 2015.

Donald Carlisle, Ed. D. has served as superintendent in four school districts over the past 19 years. The districts include Hudson City, Miller Place and Port Chester in New York and most recently Englewood School District in New Jersey. Stanley Harper has held various administrative positions in the Albany City School District since 2008 and is currently serving as Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

The Board of Education initially interviewed six candidates. Three candidates returned to the district for a series of interviews with stakeholder groups including employees, community members and representatives of the Mohawk Education Committee. Committee members provided input to the Board.

The Board of Education is conducting the search to fill the position upon the retirement of current superintendent Jane Collins. Ms. Collins is retiring after eight years of service leading the Salmon River Central School District.
