PEGGY BERO COLE

 

HOGANSBURG – After a short illness, Mrs. Peggy Bero Cole, age 75, of 162 Helena Road, peacefully passed away Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy was born August 24, 1939 in Hogansburg, the daughter of the late Peter J. and Louise Thomas Bero.  She attended St. Regis Mohawk and Massena High School.  In 1956, she married Francis Cole at the St. Regis Catholic Church.  He tragically predeceased her on September 9, 1960.  In 1969, she found her loving companion, Stanley "Bo" Ouimet, who traveled through life with her until his death on July 8, 2011. 

Peggy was a homemaker and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bombay for many years.  She was a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens and enjoyed many winters in Orange City, Florida.  Since her childhood, she had a great love for softball and enjoyed watching the Stetson College Girls Softball Team play while she lived in Florida.  In addition, the New York Yankees were dear to her heart and she also enjoyed watching children play sports and deeply enjoyed going out to eat. 


Peggy is survived by her son, Gregory Cole and his companion, Deborah Hines of Hogansburg; her granddaughters, Lyndie Brann and her husband, Jim of Bombay; and Melissa Lawson of Florida; her great granddaughters, Tiffany Brann and Francessa Lawson; her companion's daughters, Norma Jean and Stephen Francis, Brenda Paller, Marilyn Ouimet, and Cheryl and David Yelle, all of Massena; 8 step-grandchildren; and her chosen grandsons, Chad and Chris George of Hogansburg. 

She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Lamay of Orange City, Florida; her brothers, James Bero and his wife, Beatrice of Hogansburg and John Bero and his companion, Carolyn Werely of Massena; her sisters-in-law, Beatrice Cole and Hazel Bero of Hogansburg;  her godchildren, Juanita Alley Saz, Candy Thomas, Buddy Bero, Kenny Bero, Angela George, Judy Cole Laffin, and Sharon Calley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to her parents, husband and companion, Peggy was predeceased by two infant sisters, two brothers, George D. Bero on January 3, 1992 and Donald H. Bero on August 2, 2007; her goddaughter, Charlene Cole on August 8, 2012; and a step-daughter, Diane Butler on June 5, 1994.

Friends called at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, starting Sunday, November 16 until a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Osuji officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Carville Cemetery, Helena.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider Hospice of the North Country, Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or the American Cancer Society.
