Massena Girls Skate Away with a Win Over SRCS

The Massena Red Raiders traveled to the Tom Cavanaugh Arena and left with a 3-1 win over the Salmon River Shamrocks.

Massena scored the first goal of the game at the 6:11 mark when Katie MacCuaig lit the lamp with Carlie Leary and Mackenzie Young assisting.

The second period did not produce any for goals for either team.

Early in the third the Lady Shamrocks evened the score when Tewasherake Barnes connected from Destiny Skidders-Delormier. At the 11:54 mark Mia Jermano finished a play set up by Chelsea Streeter to put Massena ahead by one. With 53 seconds left in regulation time, Leary scored with assists from Raechel Davis and Shannon Casey to give the Lady Raiders a 3-1 win.

Becca Leroux turned aside 30 shots for the Shamrocks while Maddi Dillabough anchored the Raider’s net with 17 saves.

“Salmon River played a tough, competitive game. The Massena girls passed the puck well and worked well together to earn the win,” commented Massena Coach Jennifer Gray.


The Massena girl’s hockey team traveled to Central NY last weekend to play three teams. The Raiders finished with a 2-1 record for their weekend games, suffering their only loss of the weekend against Skaneateles 5-2 on Thursday evening at the Austin Park Pavilion. Maddi Dillabough manned the backstop and had 31 saves. Emily Wilmshurst and Chelsea Streeter netted Massena’s goals.

 The Raiders picked up the pace on Friday and handed Ithaca their first loss of the season in a 4-2 win for the Raiders. It was a 2-2 tie after the first period, but one minute into the 2nd period Massena took the lead and never looked back with a power play goal from Katie MacCuaig assisted by Chelsea Streeter and Mackenzie Young. Massena finished out the scoring with four minutes left in the game with an unassisted goal by Raechel Davis. Maddi Dillabough had 26 saves for Massena. Devin Baylor had 15 saves for Ithaca.

 Massena finished the weekend with a 5-1 victory over Oswego. Eighth grader Kyrsten Stone led the Raiders to their second win of the weekend with 15 saves. This was Stone’s first varsity victory in net!  Fellow 8th grader, Katie MacCuaig, led the offense with her first varsity hat-trick and 8th grader KC Herne also netted her first varsity goal. Raechel Davis also scored a goal for the Raiders. Abbie Paquin, Raechel Davis and Chelsea Streeter each had an assist. Madisyn Whalen had 37 saves for the Buccaneers.

 The Raiders’ league record is 1-2 with a 5-3 overall record. The Raiders will return to league play on Wednesday at St. Lawrence Central. Game time is 5:00PM.
