Akwesasne Library’s Yearly Book Sale Runs Now Through October 13th

The Akwesasne Library Book Sale has lots of material for all kinds of readers.

Running from September 17th through October 13th, the Akwesasne library is holding a book sale. In the garage behind the library, there are tables with books arranged into native books, fiction, nonfiction, children’s, and young readers–in paperback and hard cover. There were several titles that jumped out at me, including a lot of the R.L. Steins Goosebumps series, which are aimed young readers. On top of the books, there are VHS tapes, a DVD of Star Wars: the Clone Wars, book and also magazine racks. The non-book objects for sale are all open to offers. Books are priced at a dollar for hardcover and $0.50 for paperback, which for a title such as the MLA handbook, research writers will find is a steal. You can also buy a bag of books for 5 dollars, which the library provides.

Jennifer Boots, who works at the library said, “This is our yearly book sale so that we can make room on our shelves, and we use the proceeds from the sale to buy more books.”

“We replace the outdated material with new material. Make an offer on other stuff,” said Boots.

Even though they are purging their outdated material, much of the stuff there is as good as it ever was, and the flyer for the sale suggests stocking up on winter reads. The sale runs from 10am to 4pm Monday-Friday. The only exceptions are Wednesday the sale runs until 5pm, and Saturday the sale ends at 1pm.
