Dragon Boats Return to Cornwall

The third annual Sun Life Cornwall Waterfest returned to Cornwall this past August 10th and 11th complete with the ever popular dragon boat races to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The Sun Life Cornwall Waterfest was created three years ago to get people more involved with the beauty of the St. Lawrence River waterfront, and this year did not disappoint. An impressive 24 dragon boat teams came out to participate, despite the constant threat of rain, including the Akwesasne Dragonflies.

“This is the third year doing it”, said Tasha Thompson, team organizer. “I wanted to do it and then I got more people hooked.”

In addition to the dragon boat races, this year’s event was combined with an art fest with over 50 vendors, and also featured a swim race, water run, dragon egg drop, and new this year a strongman competition. The event reportedly raised over $10,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
