Haunted Northern New York Author visits The Bear's Den Gift Shop for Book Signing

A book signing took place at The Bear’s Den gift shop Sunday afternoon with author Cheri L. Farnsworth who has written the non-fiction paranormal series Haunted Northern New

York and has recently begun writing true crime books, the most recently released being Wicked Northern New York. Fans were able to meet, take pictures with and have their books signed by Farnsworth.

In 2000, Cheri Farnsworth had the sudden desire to write non-fiction books but wasn’t sure what she wanted write about. That is until she was at the Massena Museum and a story about an old house caught her eye. She decided that she was going to research and write about different houses with cases of paranormal activity.

Her work started off with regional research on paranormal activities then she eventually branched off into true crime. Just like her paranormal writings, Farnsworth’s true crime books are all fairly local. Many of her ideas and stories come from the people who follow her work. She receives leads through email and even at book signings where people will tell her their story or a story that they have heard about. Her fans also tell her about the attempts they have made on finding her locations that have chosen to remain anonymous. Because many of her stories occur locally, it makes it fun for fans to try to guess the different houses that may or may not be haunted or areas where a murder might have taken place.

Although she has written 17 books since she started back in 2000, writing is only a hobby for Farnsworth. She has worked full-time for the past 27 years at the Power Authority in Massena and still works there to this day. The influx of potential stories and her reader’s desire for more has kept her very busy with her hobby. A few years back, her publishers wanted another book but she was burnt out from doing the paranormal genre and that is how she came to doing true crime stories. Her fans have continued to follow her into the transition from paranormal to true crime books.

Some of her books include the already mentioned Haunted Northern New York, Haunted Connecticut, Haunted Massachusetts, The Big Book of New York Ghost Stories, Adirondack Enigma, Murder & Mayhem in St. Lawrence County, and many more. Her next book signing will be Dec. 10th 2-4pm at A Second Look Bookstore in Watertown.
