Alex A. David

 

CORNWALL ISLAND – Mr. Alex A. David, age 73, of 29 James Lane, passed away on Saturday evening, March 19, 2011 at Ottawa General Hospital, where he had been admitted on Thursday. He had recently been in failing health.

Alex was born February 6, 1938 in St. Regis, Quebec, the son of Andrew and Annie Jacobs David. He attended Spanish school and schools on Cornwall Island. He married Shirley Jacobs in 1962, which ended in divorce.

Alex was an ironworker with Local #33 in Rochester for many years until his retirement. He had previously served as a District Chief for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing and when he was younger, playing lacrosse and hockey.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn David of Cornwall Island, his mother, Annie David of Cornwall Island, 3 grandchildren, Alexander Tarbell, Kelly Tarbell and her companion, Aaron Adams, and Sarah Tarbell; and a great grandson, Wade Adams. Alex is also survived by his sister, Camilla Carney of Syracuse, his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Cecelia David of Cornwall Island; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Andrew David; a sister, Lillian Square; and brother, Henry David.

Friends called at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, on Tuesday March 22, 2011 until a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the St. Regis Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.
