One last hurrah planned for Si Miller Arena and Bob Turner Memorial Centre

By Cornwall Parks & Recreation

As the City of Cornwall makes preparations for the new Benson Centre it is also paying homage to two facilities that have served the community well for many years. In a last hurrah the City’s Recreation Division is inviting everyone to come down to the Si Miller Arena and Bob Turner Memorial Centre for one last opportunity to skate on the ice.

“We’re inviting everyone from Royals fans, to kid’s hockey associations, and to those who came to the arenas over the years just to enjoy the ice,” said Mayor Bob Kilger, “The City is preparing for a new multi-sports facility but we want to honour the memory of the facilities that so many of our citizens have had the chance to enjoy over the years.”

On Sunday, March 27th, Si Miller Arena will be open from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm while the Bob Turner Memorial Centre will be open from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm for free skating.  Music will be playing, concessions will be open and the ice will be ready for skaters to enjoy and reminisce.  A closing ceremony will occur at the Si Miller Arena at 3:00pm as well as a closing ceremony at 7:00 pm at the Bob Turner Memorial Centre.  Both ceremonies will be hosted by the Mayor.

Both Facilities To Be Featured at the Benson Centre

The legacy of the Si Miller Arena and Bob Turner Memorial Centres will continue on at the Benson Centre.  Memorabilia including a portion of the stands, the stories of the men that the facilities were named for, and some of the more significant items that adorned the area walls will line the entrance as you enter the Centre.
